Over the past few weeks, demonstrations have been taking place all over the world in solidarity with the people of Palestine. I attended the March for Palestine protest demonstration in London on May 15th, which was organised by the Palestine Solidarity Campaign (PSC), in which we marched from Marble Arch to the Israeli Embassy. The turnout for the event was insane, with around 150,000 people travelling from all over the UK in support of Palestine.

Another demonstration took place the following Saturday, which I (unfortunately) couldn’t attend, and the turnout was even bigger with roughly 200,000 people in attendance! Absolutely amazing and genuinely heart-warming to see so many people, regardless of their race or religion, joining the cause. I know that a lot of my fellow Muslim brothers and sisters have felt that it is only Muslims who are raising awareness for Palestine but from attending one of the demonstrations, I can assure you that this is absolutely not the case.

Together, we chanted “Free Palestine!” and“From the river to the sea, Palestine will be free!” and I sincerely pray that time will come soon.

I attended the demonstration on Saturday 15th May which, coincidently, fell on Nakba Day; I feel that it was even more meaningful to be protesting for the freedom of Palestine on the day in which Zionists began ethnically cleansing Palestine in late 1947.

As important as protests are, it’s important to remember that there are many other ways in which you can support Palestine, even just from your own home. This includes writing to your local MPs/lobbying your Government officials, actively participating in the “Boycott, Divestment & Sanctions” (BDS) movement, and just spreading awareness to others about what’s happening in Palestine. I think some of us are so focused on attending marches because it makes us feel like we are actually doing something because it’s a physical form of showing support, but it’s important to not neglect the many other ways that we can keep the momentum going. Just because you aren’t marching in the streets for hours, screaming “Free Palestine!” at the top of your lungs, it doesn’t mean that your voice can’t still be heard; use your voice to educate your mutuals on social media, email your MPs, and open the minds of your friends & family! You will be heard.

Thanks for reading! I hope that these resources are helpful; please let me know of any other resources that I should add to this post. Scroll to the end for some more images from the March for Palestine demonstration.
